Got the news of sad demise of GaanPanditaa Padmavati Shaligram - Gokhale on Sunday 20 July 2014 ... It is indeed a great loss! She was one of the early rebellious female vocalists. Even though trained in Ustad Alladiya Khan's lineage, she created her own niche with adding flavours of Kirana Khayal and Patiala Thumri, her TaanKriya was very speedy & different from other contemporary female vocalists in Maharashtra. She also acted & sung in films in early 1930’s. Her music was very sweet though her tongue was very rude & adamant (that can be said as a trade mark of many Jaipur Gharana artists!). She performed till her 90’s with same zeal & virtuosity – very rare kind of artist she was!

My father in forties organized Gaan Pandita Padmavatiji's maifil in Aurangabad. Her brother who was in Kolcutta had been to Aurangabad in 1988, met me and shared golden memories.
We Muley family pay homage to departed soul.
