“Tribal Music: An Introduction”

The tribal music of India is an area of research that is rarely explored. Prachi Dublay is a performer researcher in this rare field and has done extensive field work to explore India’s tribal music. In 31st episode of ‘Sudarshan Sangeet Sabha’, Prachi Dublay will present a lecture-demonstration on her experiences and observations on Tribal music of India. She will elaborate on the various aspects of tribal music along with singing and playing some audio-visual clips.
This lecture demonstration is organized by Maharashtra Cultural Centre on Sunday, 20th July 2014 at 11 am at Sudarshan Rangamanch, Pune. Donation passes will be available half hr. before the show at venue.

भारतातील अनेक आदिवासी जमातींचे संगीत आणि त्या संगीताशी असणारा सांस्कृतिक संबंध हा विषय फारसा हाताळला जात नाही. या विषयाच्या अभ्यासिका प्राची दुबळे यांनी गेली काही वर्षे प्रत्यक्ष आदिवासींमध्ये राहून या संगीताचा अभ्यास केला आहे. त्यांच्याकडून आदिवासी संगीताबद्दल जाणून घेण्याची संधी रसिक आणि अभ्यासकांना "आदिवासी संगीत : एक ओळख" या सप्रयोग व्याख्यानात मिळणार आहे. सुदर्शन संगीत सभा या उपक्रमाच्या अंतर्गत ३१ व्या भागात आदिवासी गीतांच्या गायनासह ही विशेष प्रस्तुती गायिका-संशोधिका प्राची दुबळे करणार असून त्या प्रत्यक्ष आदिवासींच्या ध्वनि-चित्रफितीही दाखवतील. अभ्यासक संगीतकार चैतन्य कुंटे त्यांच्याशी संवाद साधतील. रविवार, दि. २० जुलै रोजी सकाळी ११ वा. सुदर्शन रंगमंच येथे हा कार्यक्रम होणार असून देणगी प्रवेशिका अर्धा तास आधी उपलब्ध होतील.

Maharashtra Cultural Centre has given a rare opportunity to listeners in organizing a special listening session - “Bal Gandharva in his own voice” in the 26^th episode of Sudarshan Sangeet Sabha. Bal Gandharva, a celebrated music theatre personality of Maharashtra, was interviewed in 1963 on his 75^th birthday in which he shared his experiences and memories about his life & art. Along with the interview, some 78 RPM recordings and live concert recordings will be played in this program. Record collector Sanjay Sant will present this program with musicologist Chaitanya Kunte.

This listening session is organized by Maharashtra Cultural Centre on Sunday, 18^th August 2013 at 11 am at Sudarshan Rangamanch. The donation passes will be available 30 min prior to show.

“Bājā-Nāmā”

A century ago Hindustani Music-culture accepted two western instruments, i.e. Harmonium and Violin. Harmonium is so popular instrument that rarely any concert happens in its absence! Harmonium is colloquially known as ‘Baja’ or ‘Peti’ and composer-musicologist Chaitanya Kunte is going to present an interesting story of this instrument, “Bājā-Nāmā”. This audio-visual program highlights solo-Harmonium and connoisseurs can enjoy listening rare recordings of Harmonium players from Govindrao Tembe, Korgaonkar, P Madhukar to Dr Arawind Thatte. In the 22^nd episode of ‘Sudarshan Sangeet Sabha’, Maharashtra Cultural Centre has organized ‘AmirBai & GoharBai – Bilagi Sister & their Music’, a special audiovisual program underlining contribution of Amirbai Karnataki and Goharbai Rajhans. Amirbai Karnataki was a landmark playback singer in Hindi Film music in ‘pre-Lata Mangeshkar era’. Goharbai also was popular on Kannad and Marathi musical theatre. Many listeners also know that Goharbai Karnataki was wife of Bal Gandharva, famous singer-actor in Marathi theatre. In this special program, Prof. Rahmath Tarikere, professor of Kannad in Dharwar University, will shade some light on Bilagi sister’s musical contribution with playing some are audio clips and vidios also.

अमीरबाई कर्नाटकी आणि गोहरबाई राजहंस या "बिळगी भगिनी" म्हणून ख्यातनामअसणार्‍या दोन गायिकांनी एक काळ आपल्या गायनाने गाजवला होता. गोहरबाईंनीआपल्या गायनाने कन्नड आणि मराठी रंगभूमी गाजवली होती, तसेच बालगंधर्वांच्यापत्नी म्हणूनही मराठी रसिकांना त्यांचा परिचय आहे. हिंदी चित्रपटसंगीतात एकपार्श्वगायिका म्हणून अमीरबाईंनी आपली खास मुद्रा निर्माण केली होती.गोहरबाईंच्या जन्मशताब्दीनिमित्त २०१० साली धारवाड विद्यापीठातील कन्नडभाषेचे प्राध्यापक रहमत तरीकेरी यांनी या गायिका भगिनींच्या सांगीतिकआयुष्यावर प्रकाश टाकणारा अभ्यासपूर्ण कार्यक्रम सादर केला होता. बिळगीभगिनींच्या ध्वनिमुद्रिका, चित्रपटागीते यांच्याद्वारे त्यांचे सांगीतिक जीवन मांडणाराहा दृकश्राव्य कार्यक्रम प्रा. रहमत तरीकेरी पुण्यातील रसिकांसाठी सादर करतआहेत. रविवार, दि. २१ एप्रिल २०१३ रोजी सकाळी ११ वा. सुदर्शन रंगमंच येथे हाकार्यक्रम महाराष्ट्र कल्चरल सेंटरने आयोजित केला आहे.

पं. छोटा गंधर्व हे मराठी रसिकांना एक नावाजलेले संगीत-नट म्हणून सुपरिचित असले तरी त्यांचा रागसंगीताही सखोल व्यासंग होता. नाट्यसंगीतातील दीर्घ कारकिर्दीबरोबरच पं. छोटा गंधर्वांनी ’गुनरंग’ या मुद्रेने अनेक बंदिशी बांधल्या, नवरागनिर्मिती केली.

छोटा गंधर्वांच्या स्मृतिदिनानिमित्त त्यांच्या रागसंगीतातील योगदानावर प्रकाश पाडणारा विशेष कार्यक्रम सुदर्शन संगीत सभेच्या २१ व्या भागात सादर होत आहे. छोटा गंधर्वांचे शिष्य व संगीतकार विश्वनाथ ओक आणि गायिका माधुरी ओक हे औरंगाबादचे कलाकार दांपत्य हा कार्यक्रम पेश करणार असून छोटा गंधर्वांचे नवनिर्मित राग, बंदिशी यांचे सादरीकर ते करतील. तसेच छोटा गंधर्वांचे काही दुर्मिळ ध्वनिमुद्रणही रसिकांना ऐकायला मिळेल.
