Shambhavi Vaze, the most sought after young Kathak danseuse from Pune, has had her training in Kathak dance from her mother and renowned Kathak Guru Mrs. Maneesha Sathe. She has also had extensive training in Laya- Taal and it’s aesthetics from none other than Taalyogi Pandit Suresh Talwalkar. She is trained in Hindustani vocal music by Guru Mrs. Mangala Vaidya.

About the artist:
Arshad Ali, the young, prodigious classical vocalist, a scholar of the ITC Sangeet Research Academy, Kolkata, is indeed someone on whom one has pinned great hopes for the future as a successful representative of the Kirana gharana tradition of Khayal singing.

Born in a family of well known musicians of this gharana, Arshad is the grandson of Sarangi maestro, Padmashree Ustad Shakoor Khan. He undergoes rigorous traning from his maternal uncle, Ustad Mashkoor Ali Khan, respected guru at the Academy, and also from Mashkoorji’s younger brother, Ustad Mubarak Ali Khan.

About the artist:
A vocalist of great promise, Smt. Jayashree Patanekar combines a variety of elements from the Gwalior, Jaipur and Agra traditions and presents them in a unique and aesthetically pleasing manner.

She began her training at the age of eight or nine with Vithal Pai of Sawantwadi and then continued it with Mr. K.D.Jaokar for about 5 years. Later she received training with Ratnakar Pai and Nivrutibua Sarnaik. In 1964, she received the first prize in vocal music in a nation wide competition held by All India Radio.

Pt. Gajananbua Joshi the violin maestro and eminent vocalist of the Gwalior Ghrana listened to her singing and agreed to teach her. Without asking her to chnage her voice culture, he trained her for seven or eight years concentrating on every aspect of singing-use of voice-culture, increasing the power of breath, clarity in Taans, puroity of notes control of rhythm, exposition of the Raag structure in a planned and beautiful manner and so on. Through him, she picked up the nuances of styles of Bhurji Khan, Vilayat Hussein Khan, Vazebua etc. Jayashree was singing in Pune after a very long break but she proved she had maintained her merits- no she had improved on them during this period of long absence.

About the artist: Dr. Sudhanshu Kulkarni
Sudhanshu Kulkarni received the musical training since the age of ten, first under the tutlage of late Appasaheb Laxman Sakhlakar and later with Pt. Rambhau K. Bijapur, one of the noteworthy harmonium maestros of his time. Having graduated the degree of Sangeet Alankar, Sudhanshu is the first person to obtain the Doctoral degree in music (Sangeet Praveen) from Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalya Mandal, Mumbai in harmonium. With extensive and varied training, Sudhanshu has carved a niche for himself as an eminent harmonium player, and he stands tall along with other renowned contemporaries. Sudhanshu Kulkarni has accompanied great stalwarts artists in India and abroad including Gangubai Hangal, late Kumar Gandharva, Prabha Atre, late K. G. Ginde, Malini Rajurkar, Parveen Sultana, Padma Talwalkar, and Veena Sahastrabudhe.

Sarang Kulkarni:
Sarang Kulkarni, the very talented and multi faceted musician, is one of the most prominent faces of the emerging classical musicians of the new generation. Having shown his genius as a child prodigy, Sarang inherited the art of music from his father Dr. Sudhanshu Kulkarni, internationally renowned scholar - musician and mastered Harmonium at a young age.

Dakshinayan - a treat of Carnatic Music

- Sangeet Samrat N Ravikiran (Chitravina)



Chitravina N. Ravikiran (born February 12, 1967 in Mysore, Karnataka, India) is a composer of Indian Carnatic music. He has been called the "Indian Mozart". He is probably most famous for his concept of "melharmony", which is harmony which stays within the melodic rules of an Indian raga (musical mode). Considered a virtuoso chitravina player, he has been described as "probably the greatest slide instrumentalist in the world today" by Radio Australia. Ravikiran has also played the slide Hawaiian guitar, and is an accomplished vocalist. He invented a variant of the chitravina called the navachitravina, which is smaller and has a clearer tone in the higher frequencies. Ravi Shankar, the famous sitar player, is most impressed with his talents, and is noted as saying: "If you don’t believe in God, just look at Ravikiran."

T. V. Sankaranarayanan (Tiruvalangadu Vembu Iyer Sankaranarayanan, born March 7, 1945) is an eminent and popular Carnatic vocalist (South Indian classical singer), known for his vibrant music that essentially stems from the style of his late uncle-guru, Madurai Mani Iyer. Padma Bhushan Sankaranarayanan, a winner of the prestigious Sangeetha Kalanidhi award instituted by the Madras Music Academy, is particularly noted for the easy reach of his voice to the upper notes and colourful dilineation of the solphas (swaraprastaram).

हस्तमुद्रा आणि अभिनयाचा मिलाफ असलेले नृत्य आणि बहारदार गायनाने रसिक रविवारी मंत्रमुग्ध झाले. "स्वरप्रतिभा' या पं. जितेंद्र अभिषेकी यांच्या सांगीतिक कारकिर्दीचा वेध घेणाऱ्या कार्यक्रमाने "पं. जितेंद्र अभिषेकी महोत्सवा'चा समारोप झाला.

तरंगिणी सांस्कृतिक प्रतिष्ठान, आपला परिसर ट्रस्ट आणि नगरसेवक उज्ज्वल केसकर यांच्यातर्फे आयोजित "पं. जितेंद्र अभिषेकी महोत्सवा'त पंडिता शुभदा यांचे ओडिसी नृत्य आणि पं. जसराज यांचे शिष्य रतन मोहन शर्मा यांचे गायन झाले. "सकाळ' या महोत्सवाचा माध्यम प्रायोजक होता.

आदि शंकराचार्यविरचित "शिवपंचाक्षर स्तुती'ने शुभदा यांच्या कार्यक्रमाची सुरवात झाली. त्यानंतर गुरू केलुचरण महापात्ररचित "सावेरी' रागातील "पल्लवी' ही रचना त्यांनी सादर केली. कळी उमलून फूल होण्याची प्रक्रिया त्यांच्या नृत्यातून साकारली. "जटायू मोक्ष' या तुलसी रामायणावर आधारित रचनेतून त्यांनी हस्तमुद्रा आणि अभिनयाद्वारे कथा उलगडली. त्यांना विजय तांबे यांनी बासरीची, कौशिक बसू यांनी पखवाजची, अलका गुर्जर यांनी सतारची, अग्निमित्र बेहरे यांनी व्हायोलिनची; तर एस. ऋषी यांनी गायनाची साथ केली. या वेळी विद्याताई अभिषेकी यांच्या हस्ते ज्येष्ठ तबलावादक चंद्रकांत कामत यांचा अमृतमहोत्सवानिमित्त आणि नाट्य संमेलनाध्यक्ष रामदास कामत यांचा सत्कार करण्यात आला.

मेवाती घराण्याचे युवा गायक रतन मोहन शर्मा यांनी "पूरिया' आणि "मेघ' हे राग सादर केले. त्यांना उदय कुलकर्णी यांनी हार्मोनिअमची, अजिंक्‍य जोशी यांनी तबल्याची, गोविंद भिलारे यांनी पखवाजची साथ केली; तर सुरेश पत्की यांनी स्वरसाथ केली. "अबीर गुलाल उधळीत रंग' हा पं. अभिषेकी यांनी लोकप्रिय केलेला अभंग त्यांनी गायिला तेव्हा रसिकांनी टाळ्यांचा कडकडाट केला.



"स्वरानंद'निर्मित "स्वरप्रतिभा' या दृक्‌श्राव्य कार्यक्रमातून पं. अभिषेकी यांची सांगीतिक कारकीर्द उलगडली. कामत यांच्यासह सुमेधा देसाई, अभिषेकी यांचे पुत्र शौनक अभिषेकी आणि शिष्य हेमंत पेंडसे यांनी सोळा रागांचा समावेश असलेली "रागमाला', "कितक दिन', "हरिभजनावीण काळ घालवू नको रे', "गर्द सभोवती', "सुरत पिया', "हे सुरांनो चंद्र व्हा', "माझे जीवनगाणे' ही गीते सादर केली. ज्योत्स्ना भोळे, पं. प्रभाकर कारेकर, वसंत कानेटकर, प्रभाकर पणशीकर, फय्याज, प्रसाद सावकार, मंगेश पाडगावकर या मान्यवरांची अभिषेकी यांची वैशिष्ट्ये सांगणारी मनोगते पडद्यावर दाखविण्यात आली. या कार्यक्रमाचे संहितालेखन शैला मुकुंद यांचे, तर निवेदन वंदना खांडेकर यांचे होते. अभिषेकी यांच्या स्वरातील "सर्वात्मका' या ध्वनिमुद्रित भैरवीने महोत्सवाची सांगता झाली.

गायन, वादन आणि नृत्याचा अनोखा मिलाफ असलेल्या "स्वर तालयात्रा' या कलाविष्काराने रसिक शुक्रवारी मंत्रमुग्ध झाले. सहवादन आणि जुगलबंदीच्या माध्यमातून स्वर, ताल, लय आणि नादाची अनुभूती देणाऱ्या कार्यक्रमाने "पं. जितेंद्र अभिषेकी महोत्सवा'स सुरवात झाली.

तरंगिणी सांस्कृतिक प्रतिष्ठान, आपला परिसर ट्रस्ट आणि नगरसेवक उज्ज्वल केसकर यांच्यातर्फे आयोजित "पं. जितेंद्र अभिषेकी महोत्सवा'चे उद्‌घाटन ज्येष्ठ तबलावादक तालयोगी पं. सुरेश तळवलकर यांच्या हस्ते झाले. विद्याताई अभिषेकी, आमदार गिरीश बापट, नगरसेवक अनिल शिरोळे, भरत वैरागे, गणेश बिडकर, मनीष साळुंके आणि योगेश गोगावले या वेळी उपस्थित होते. 'सकाळ' या महोत्सवाचा माध्यम प्रायोजक आहे.

पं. तळवलकर यांनी या कार्यक्रमामागची संकल्पना सांगितली. ते म्हणाले, "गायन, वादन आणि नृत्य यातून केवळ संगीताचा आविष्कार होतो. पंरपरेमध्ये नवतेची मूल्ये सामावली आहेत आणि नवतेला परंपरेचा साज असतो.'' या कार्यक्रमात त्यांच्यासह सत्यजित तळवलकर, चारुदत्त फडके (तबला), ओंकार दळवी (पखवाज), श्रीधर पार्थसारथी (मृदंग), तन्मय देवचक्के (हार्मोनिअम), रवी चारी (सतार), अनय गाडगीळ (सिंथेसायझर), संदीप कुलकर्णी (बासरी) यांचा सहभाग होता. शौनक अभिषेकी आणि रघुनंदन पणशीकर यांच्या गायन साथीने कार्यक्रमात रंग भरला. शांभवी वझे, परिमल फडके, कावेरी आगाशे, मुक्ती श्री आणि शीतल कोलवालकर यांनी नृत्याचे सादरीकरण केले. इशान कौशल, सावनी तळवलकर आणि मयंक बेडेकर यांनी पढंत गायनाची साथ केली.

'महादेव शंकर' या शिववंदना बंदिशीने कार्यक्रमाची सुरवात झाली. त्यानंतर राग 'सोहनी'ची "चलो हटो पियॉं' ही आडा चौतालाची रचना सादर करण्यात आली. स्वर, ताल आणि भरतनाट्यम-कथक नृत्य यांच्या जुगलबंदीने रसिक मंत्रमुग्ध झाले. राधा-कृष्ण स्तुतीपर रचना आणि "ललत' रागातील तराणा सादर झाला. उत्तरार्धात तळवलकर यांनी विविध मात्रांचे लालित्यपूर्ण सादरीकरण केले. ज्येष्ठ नृत्यांगना सुचेता भिडे-चापेकर यांच्या हस्ते कलाकारांचा सत्कार करण्यात आला.

Shaniwar Wada Festival

The eighth edition of the Shaniwar Wada Festival will commence on the 21st of February 2009 in the city. This year’s festival is a tribute to the late danseuse Rohini Bhate who passed away last year.

21st Feb

The festival will open with a dance performance by her students, who will be performing her favourite compositions, followed by performances by Rohini Bhate school and Shama Bhate schools. The first day will close with a debut dance performance by Barkha Sharma, wife of Rahul Sharma. She will perform the ‘Ganesh Vandana’ in Mohoniattam style. Rahul Sharma will also perform a santoor recital.

22nd Feb

On the second day of the festival, Shobhana Chandrakumar will perform the dance ballet ‘Maya Raavan’. Shobhana Chandrakumar is a National award winning Bharatnatyam dancer. The ‘Maya Raavan’ has already made waves in Mumbai when it was performed there and now it comes to Pune on request.

Thomas Schrott, played extensively in Italy for the most important concert societies such as: Teatro alla Scala di Milano, the Theaters of Bologna, Mantova, Genova, Torino and Rome, the Festivals of Ravello, Portogruaro and Mittelfest. Furthermore, he has performed concerts at the London Barbican and Royal Albert Hall and the Berlin Philharmonic (small hall) in North and South America, Japan, South Africa, India, Bahrain, Mauritius, Turkey, Montenegro, Cuba and Uzbekistan.

As a soloist, he performed with the Moldova Symphony Orchestra (Beethoven Concerto), Orchestra della Sagra Musicale Umbra (cond. Thomas Briccetti), Festival Strings Lucerne (cond. Rudolf Baumgartner), Bombay Chamber Orchestra (cond. Wolfgang Harrer, Vienna).

Daniel Bosshard studied with Hans Andreae at the Zurich Conservatory as well as with Rolf Mäser (piano) and Robert Suter (composition) at the Music Academy of Basel. Besides teaching piano at the teacher’s training faculty of the University of Zurich he was for 10 years member (harpsichord) and soloist of the “Festival Strings Lucerne” (conductor: Rudolf Baumgartner). As a pianist and harpsichordist he has toured in Switzerland, Germany, France, Finland, Italy, Austria, Japan and South Africa. With violonist Thomas Schrott he has played several times in India and Bahrain."

पुणे, ता. १ - ज्येष्ठ तबलावादक उस्ताद अल्लारखॉं यांच्या स्मृतिदिनानिमित्त येत्या शनिवारी (ता. ७) "सा' व "नी' सूरसंगीत संस्थेतर्फे संगीत मैफल आयोजिण्यात आली आहे.

ज्येष्ठ तबलावादक पं. सुरेश तळवलकर यांच्या शिष्यांचे "तालकीर्तन', कौशिकी चक्रवर्ती यांचे शास्त्रीय गायन; तसेच अल्लारखॉं यांचे शिष्य योगेश समसी यांचे तबलावादन आदी कार्यक्रम होणार आहेत."सकाळ' या कार्यक्रमाचा माध्यम प्रायोजक आहे.

यशवंतराव चव्हाण नाट्यगृह येथे सायंकाळी साडेपाच वाजता ही मैफल होणार आहे. सुरवातीला "तालकीर्तन' होईल. त्यानंतर "फिल्म्स डिव्हिजन'निर्मित अल्लारखॉं यांच्यावरील लघुपट दाखविण्यात येणार आहे. "अल्लारखॉं यांचे तबल्यातील योगदान' या विषयावर तळवलकर श्रोत्यांशी संवाद साधणार आहेत. त्यानंतर कौशिकी चक्रवर्ती यांचे गायन होईल. त्यानंतर योगेश समसी यांच्या एकल (सोलो) तबलावादनाने या मैफलीची सांगता होणार आहे.

"सा' व "नी' सूरसंगीत संस्थेचे सुरेंद्र मोहिते म्हणाले, ""अल्लारखॉं यांच्या स्मृतीला वंदन करण्यासाठी पुण्यातील तबलावादक आणि सर्व कलाकारांतर्फे कार्यक्रम व्हावा, अशी आमची इच्छा होती. संगीतावर विलक्षण प्रेम करणाऱ्या अल्लारखॉंनी ए. कुरेशी या नावाने 25 चित्रपटांना संगीत दिले, म्हणूनच या कार्यक्रमात तबल्याबरोबरच गायनाचाही समावेश केला आहे. या कार्यक्रमाला प्रवेश विनामूल्य असून, यशवंतराव चव्हाण नाट्यगृह येथे शनिवारी सकाळी साडेनऊपासून "एका व्यक्तीस दोन' याप्रमाणे प्रवेशिका देण्यात येतील.

Shrimati Devaki Pandit is a maharashtrian performer of classical, semi-classical, light and devotional music India.

She received her initial music training from her mother Smt. Usha Pandit. She then trained under Vasantrao Kulkarni, Kishori Amonkar, Jitendra Abhisheki. Devakitai is currently receiving instruction from Babanrao Haldankar. In light music, she counts poet-composer Sudhir Moghe among her gurus.

She started performing at the age of nine and did her first recording at the age of twelve, but came into the limelight when she was given a break by Hridaynath Mangeshkar in a programme on doordarshan. A highly talented singer, she has not only given performances in India, but has undertaken concert tours all over the world at the invitation of prestigious institutions. She has also sung for various films, with renowned music directors. However, her focus remains on Hindustani classical music.

Sameer Dublay, a young vocalist in the tradition of Hindustani Classical Music, represents that unique mixture of a passionate and inspired vocalist, and a rational and knowledgeable and above all articulate expert on Indian Classical Music.

Sameer started learning music from Pt. Rambhau Mate in Pune, in 1980, at the age of 12. Quickly grasping the various technicalities of Classical Music, he realised the need for a performer Guru, and was accepted by Pt. Jitendra Abhisheki, in 1989.
