Maharashtra Cultural Centre presents “Soor Chaitanyaache” two-day music festival of exclusive compositions by talented young composer Chaitanya Kunte. In the young generation musicians, Chaitanya Kunte has created his own niche as a composer with versatile genius. He has more than 300 compositions in classical music and more than 200 compositions of light music. In this festival, Chaitanya Kunte will bring forth some of new classical Bandishes in Raag-s Jayant Malhar, Maru Bihag, Sampporna Malkauns, etc and some assorted Marathi compositions by stalwart poets. Initially he learned from Madhusudan Patwardhan for eight years, followed by training under renowned artiste of yesteryear, Vasantrao Deshpande for five years and then under Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki for seven years. He has been trained by gurus belonging to different gharanas (schools of music), and it reflects in his singing. He has received several honors including a scholarship given by Master Sudhir Phadke Through ‘Sulashree Pratishthan’ for six years from 1983 to 1990 and the ‘Pandit Ramkrishna Vaze Puraskar’ by Gandharva Mahamandal.

Chakrabarty was born 1980 in Kolkata, India. She is the daughter of Chandana Chakraborty and the renowned Indian classical singer Ajoy Chakraborty. At age seven, she started learning Indian classical music at the academy of Pandit Jnan Prakash Ghosh, joining later ITC Sangeet Research Academy. Kaushiki graduated from the University of Calcutta in 2002 with first class honours in philosophy. Kaushiki has participated in many major concerts, including the Dover Lane Music Conference, the ITC Sangeet Sammelan in India, the Spring Festival of Music (California), and Parampara Program (Los Angeles).

While displaying a judicious mix of the Kirana, Gwalior abd Jaipur gayakis (singing style characteristic of a certain school), Padma's vibrant voice is lent wings by both imagination and virtuosity.Padma was initiated into singing as a child of ten by Pandit Gangadhar Pimpalkhare, and was groomed and inspired by him to take to music professionally. For over five years, from 1969 to 1974, she had the good fortune to study under Shrimati Moghubai Kurdikar, the senior Jaipur vocalist. During these years, her musical perceptions were deeply influenced by Kishori Amonkar, the charismatic daughter of Moghubai. Padma also added to her knowledge and repertoire under other veteran masters like Nivrutti Bua Sarnaik and Gajanan Rao Joshi.Padma's talent attracted recognition while she was still a student in the form of the Bhulabhai Desai Memorial Scholarship, and then the prestigious Kasarbai Karkar Fellowship of the National Centre of Performing Arts. Since then, Padma has emerged as a compalling presence on the concert scene in the country and abroad, besides being a popular broadcaster over the radio and television.

Jayashree Patanekar combines a variety of elements from the Gwalior, Jaipur and Agra traditions and presents them in a unique and aesthetically pleasing manner.She began her training at the age of eight or nine with Vithal Pai of Sawantwadi and then continued it with Mr. K.D.Jaokar for about 5 years. Later she received training with Ratnakar Pai and Nivrutibua Sarnaik. In 1964, she received the first prize in vocal music in a nation wide competition held by All India Radio.Pt. Gajananbua Joshi the violin maestro and eminent vocalist of the Gwalior Ghrana listened to her singing and agreed to teach her. Without asking her to chnage her voice culture, he trained her for seven or eight years concentrating on every aspect of singing-use of voice-culture, increasing the power of breath, clarity in Taans, puroity of notes control of rhythm, exposition of the Raag structure in a planned and beautiful manner and so on. Through him, she picked up the nuances of styles of Bhurji Khan, Vilayat Hussein Khan, Vazebua etc.

Babanrao Haldankar is a stalwart of both Agra and Jaipur-Atrauli gharanas, having being trained by Ustad Khadim Hussein and Anwar Hussein (Agra Gharana) and Smt Mogubai Kurdikar (Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana). Pt. Haldankar is today well known as a guru, composer, scholar-thinker and performer. He has composed more than 200 Raga texts in vilambit (slow composition), drut (fast composition) and Taranas. He has published several books in Hindi, Marathi and English. These are valuable treatises covering the expanse of Hindustani Classical Music and unique explanations of the theory and performance of Ragas. Usha Pandit and advanced training from Pt.Vasantrao Kulkarni, Padmabhushan Smt.Kishori Amonkar, Padmashree late Pt.Jitendra Abhisheki. Presently she is learning from known vocalist Pt.Babanrao Haldankar. She started performing at the age of nine and did her first recording at the age of twelve. Since then she has not looked back. Born with melody in her voice and charm in her persona, this young singer has created magic in the world of classical music. She has not only given performances in India, but has undertaken concert tours all over the world at the invitation of prestigious institutions. She has also sung for various films, with renowned music directors, but her attention remains focussed on Hindustani Classical music.
'Kalapini' presents a Lecture-Demonstration by Taalyogi Pt. Suresh Talwalkar. The program also also features lectures on various subjects, by Dr. Vikas Kashalkar, Dr. Rajiv Sharangpani and Nandu Natekar.

ग़ज़ल का सफ़र A common and popular form of music in the Sub-Continent, Ghazal is also a poetic recitation. However, today it is commonly conceived of as an Urdu song whose prime importance is given to the lyrics. Ghazal Ka Safar is conceived as a show which would revisit the evolution of this form of poetry and recall some popular master pieces through live rendition on stage. It provides a musical visage to the poetry of the maestros, reintroducing this most popular light classical musical form to the audiences . Poets like Mir Taqi Mir, Mirza Ghalib, Daagh Dehlvi, Momin Khan Momin, Akbar Allahabadi, Makhdoom Mohiddeen, Ahmad Faraaz among others are featured in this show. A nostalgic trip for those who have savored the poetry of the subcontinent through various recorded versions, the show also showcases some of the popular compositions over the years sung by several eminent artistes like Mehdi Hassan ,Ghulam Ali,Begum Akhtar and Jagjit Singh to name a few. The show also The show is presented by two very talented singers Mr.Dattaprasad Ranade. (desciple of ghazal maestro Mehdi Hassan) & Savani Ravindra. The script has been written by Mr. Salim Arif . नटसम्राट बालगंधर्व, स्वरराज छोटा गंधर्व आणि स्वरभास्कर पं. भीमसेन जोशी यांनी अजरामर केलेले अभंग आता किराणा घराण्याचे युवा गायक आनंद भाटे यांच्या स्वरांतून ऐकण्याची संधी रसिकांना मिळणार आहे. रविवारी (ता. 2) एस. एम. जोशी सभागृह येथे सायंकाळी सहा वाजता भाटे यांच्या अभंग गायनाचा शुभारंभाचा प्रयोग होणार आहे.या कार्यक्रमात भाटे यांना राजीव परांजपे (ऑर्गन), प्रसाद जोशी (तबला), नंदू भांडवलकर (पखवाज) साथ करणार आहेत, तर माउली टाकळकर टाळवादनाने या अभंगगायनामध्ये रंग भरला जाणार आहे. लहानपणीच आपल्या मधुर गायनाने 'आनंद गंधर्व' हा किताब पटकाविलेला नूमवि प्रशालेचा विद्यार्थी आनंद भाटे यांनी पं. यशवंतबुवा मराठे यांच्याकडे गायनाचे प्राथमिक शिक्षण घेतले. त्यानंतर 1988 पासून पं. भीमसेन जोशी यांच्याकडे शास्त्रीय गायनाचे शिक्षण घेतले. चंद्रशेखर देशपांडे यांच्याकडून त्यांना नाट्यगीतांचे मार्गदर्शन मिळाले आहे.
कार्यक्रमाविषयी भाटे म्हणाले, 'पं. भीमसेनजी या माझ्या गुरुजींची "संतवाणी' मी ऐकली आहे. या कार्यक्रमाला त्यांनी आपल्या अलौकिक स्वरांनी उंचीवर नेऊन ठेवले आहे. त्या पातळीपर्यंत पोचण्यास मला किती जन्म लागतील देव जाणे; पण त्यांच्याकडून जे शिकता आले ते लोकांपर्यंत सादर करण्याचा माझा प्रामाणिक प्रयत्न आहे. शास्त्रीय संगीताचा पाया असलेल्या अभंगगायनाच्या माध्यमातून भक्तिभाव हा नकळतपणे शास्त्रीय गायन न कळणाऱ्यांपर्यंत पोचतो. "जय जय राम कृष्ण हरी' या गजरापासून सुरवात करून या तीन दिग्गजांचे अभंग सादर करणार आहे. एखादे हिंदी किंवा कानडी भजनदेखील सादर करण्याचा मानस आहे.

Right from a very young age, Satyajit received immaculate attention and training from his parents in various aspects of Indian classical music. But his interest in percussion was nurtured by his father, one of the most revered teacher and practitioner of the art of tabla playing. In following his father’s footsteps, Satyajit has become a masterful accompanist to instrumental and vocal music. But he is also recognized as a solo artist, and is at ease in performing as a member of taal vadya kacheri (ensemble of Indian percussionists) and his duets with Western drum ensemble have received critical acclaim.
