In an event in memory of the late Shri. Madhukar (Balasaheb) Bakre, the Bakre family has organized an evening of classical music.

Pt. Satyasheel Deshpande will perform, followed by an audio-visual listening session on his Guru Pt. Kumar Gandharva which will feature rare videos of Kumarji drawn from Balasaheb Bakre's collection.

Sawai Gandharva Mahotsav renamed to Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav

The prestigious Sawai Gandharva music festival has been rechristened the Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav from its 59th edition which begins from December 7. Festival, which was initiated by Kirana Gharana maestro Pt Bhimsen Joshi in memory of his guru Sawai Gandharva aka Rambhau Kundgolkar, will now have Bhimsenji's name in it.

“Niwritti-Naad”

Maharashtra Cultural Centre presents “Sudarshan Sangeet Sabha”, a series of music programs every month’s third Sunday. In this series,

fifth presentation is “Niwritti-Naad”.

This is a special concert celebrating the birth centenary of Pt. Niwrittibua Sarnaik, a veteran vocalist of Jaipur Gharana.

In this concert Smt. Lata Godse (disciple of Pt. Niwrittibua Sarnaik) will recite his Bandish-s along with giving a speech on the maestro’s life and work.

She will be accompanied by Milind Pote (Tabla) & Chaitanya Kunte (Harmonium).

Listening session of some rare recordings by Pt. Sarnaik is another centre of attraction for this program.

“Niwritti-Naad” is organized on Sunday, 20^th Nov. 2011 at 11am. Venue is Sudarshan RangManch, Shanivar Peth, Pune.

Sawai Gandharva festival to be held from 7th December

Music lovers have much to look forward to this year with the renowned Sawai Gandharva music festival set to span over five days for the first time in its 59-year-old history. The festival, organised by the Arya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal, will be held between December 7 and 11 at the New English School, Raman Baug grounds.

The 59th edition of the festival would be dedicated to Kirana Gharana maestro late Pt Bhimsen Joshi, who started the festival in the memory of his guru Sawai Gandharva. It will have participation of veteran artistes from the world of Indian classical music. The programme timings of each day would be different.

Timings and information about the ticket sale as well as the participating artistes would soon be declared by the Arya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal.

Previously, the festival was spread over four days comprising five sessions including four sessions in the evening and a morning session on the concluding day. However, this year the morning session on the concluding day has been cancelled and instead one more day has been added.

The number of days of the festival had earlier been increased in the year 2005 from three days to four. The 10 pm deadline on the use of loudspeakers was one of the main reasons why the festival days were increased. This was done mainly to compensate for the curtailed evenings. The organisers were also forced to convert the all-night festival into an afternoon format.

‘महाराष्ट्र कल्चरल सेंटर’तर्फे दर महिन्याच्या तिसऱ्या रविवारी सुदर्शन रंगमंच येथे संगीतविषयक मासिक उपक्रम चालवला जातो. या “सुदर्शन संगीत सभा” मालिकेतील तिसऱ्या भागात “सूर आरस्पानी” हा कार्यक्रम सादर होणार आहे.
“सूर आरस्पानी” या कार्यक्रमात रसिकांना १९०५ ते १९५५ या काळातील कलावंताच्या ध्वनिमुद्रित संगीताचे काही दुर्मिळ नमुने ऐकायला मिळतील. यात अब्दुल करीम खां, रहिमत खां, वझेबुवा, मास्तर कृष्णराव, बालगंधर्व, सुंदराबाई, मा. दीनानाथ, हिराबाई बडोदेकर, विनायकराव पटवर्धन, इ. लोकप्रिय कलाकारांसह बी. आर्. देवधर यांचा वाद्यवृंद, खाप्रूमाम पर्वतकरांचे तबलावादन, अल्लाउद्दीन खां यांचे व्हायोलिनवादन, इ. अन्यही दुर्मिळ स्वराविष्कार ऐकवले जातील. तसेच तत्कालीन महाराष्ट्रातील कीर्तन, लावणी, नाट्यगीत, काव्यगायन, भावगीत यांचेही वेचक नमुने सादर होतील.
पुण्यातील ध्वनिसंग्राहक संजय संत हे या कार्यक्रमाची प्रस्तुती करणार आहेत. तर संगीतकार चैतन्य कुंटे हे या कार्यक्रमातून गेल्या शतकातील भारतीय संगीत कसे होते, त्याचे ध्वनिमुद्रण कसे सुरु झाले, तत्कालीन कलाकार व त्यांची कला याबद्दल भाष्य करतील.

रविवार दि. १८ सप्टेंबर रोजी सकाळी ११ वा. सुदर्शन रंगमंच येथे “सूर आरस्पानी” सादर होणार आहे.

“Soor Araspaani”: Music in 1905 to 1955
Maharashatra Cultural Centre presents a series “Sudarshan Sangeet Sabha” on every month’s third Sunday. In this series, this month connoisseurs can enjoy the early Gramophone recordings in India – during first 5 decades of 20th century in a special feature program “Soor Araspaani”.
Along with the popular performers such as Abdul Karim Khan, Rahimat Khan, Vazebuwa, Master Krishna, Bal Gandharva, Sundara Bai, Hirabai Barodekar, Vinayakrao Patwardhan, etc; some rare records such as Orchestra of B R Deodhar, Violin of Allauddin Khan, Tabla by Khaprumam Parvatkar, etc will be played. The music & musicians of Maharashtra in that era will also be portrayed with the forms like Keertan, Lawani, NatyaGeet, BhaawGeet, KaywaGayan, etc.
Pune based record collector Sanjay Sant will present the recordings and musicologist Chaitanya Kunte will speak about the artists and music in that era.

संगीतकार श्रीनिवास खळे यांचे निधन

आपल्या कर्णमधुर आणि भावपूर्ण गीतांनी मराठी रसिकांना सहा दशकांहून अधिक काळ मोहिनी घालणारे संगीतकार श्रीनिवास खळे यांचे आज (शुक्रवार) वृद्धापकाळाने निधन झाले. ते ८५ वर्षांचे होते.

भावगीत, अभंग, बालगीते, पोवाडा यांच्यासह संगीताच्या अनेक क्षेत्रांमध्ये स्वत:चा खळे यांनी ठसा उमटविला होता. खळे यांच्या संगीत क्षेत्रातील योगदानाबद्दल त्यांना भारत सरकारचा मानाचा ‘ पद्मभूषण ’पुरस्कारासह ‘ संगीतरत्न ’ पुरस्कार, ‘लता मंगेशकर ’ पुरस्कार आणि जीवनगौरव पुरस्काराने सन्मानित करण्यात आले होते.
